Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary

| When the horse has outlived his
prime, or paid the price for his rider's glory, or has fallen into the
harsh hands of disturbed people, if he is very fortunate he will find himself
at Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary.
Jim and Melanie Bowles provide a haven for such horses in their part of Florida. The horses come with unbelievable histories, yet by a mere flick of an ear they express the total transformation of body and spirit that comes from personal attention, a tailored feeding program, and the security of thoughtful herd management. Melanie possesses a gift that transcends even the most loving "normal" relationship between horse and human. She has taken animals aggressively abused by humanity and nurtured that last grain of trust until they follow her around in unabashed adoration. I am personally humbled by the selfless efforts of Proud Spirit; they are accomplishing what most of us only wish in passing that we could. I would challenge you to support Proud Spirit, or an equine refuge in your area, or simply to give your own friend an extra measure of honor and affection. |

Storm Dancer
This courageous Appaloosa came to Proud Spirit a skeletal ghost; starved and thirsty, deprived of any equine contact, and with a broken hip. With Melanie's timely rescue, Storm Dancer was fattened and spoiled. She worked his hip to loosen the stiffness associated with this profound injury, and introduced him to his new herd. Mares adore him, geldings revere him, and he couldn't be more content. Storm Dancer represents not only
the heart of the Appaloosa, but the miracle of loving care. It was
a privilege to paint his portrait and to make available these signed prints
for a $20.00 contribution to Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary.
