APPALOOSA
Spotted Horse of the Nez Percé Nation

In contemporary horse circles, many regard with some indifference the Appaloosa as merely a color breed, the bearer of wild and defiant, tenacious and untamable spots.
Some of us feel the color more than see it. We are taken back to the mountains and meadows of our Northwest, and drawn to a people whose heart sculpted the enduring spirit of the Appaloosa. We sense the tranquility of herds grazing, and the fervor of warrior games. We still cry with the people who lost land and horse and family to the destiny of wanton westward settlement.
My work is a tribute to this horse. I pray that you will see in my paintings the depth and texture of my relationship to the Appaloosa. The soul of the animal is born of God, and is as eternal as the precocious foal in Blue Waters of Hope.
